Late May Stripers have begun to show up in force. There are larger number of smaller fish than we have ever seen. This observation has been corroborated by many of our fishing buddies. Even the old timers agree. 3"saltshakers and 2/0 clousers have been the most effective on nearly every tide in all of the early season spots. June 12th John and Martina embarked on a night mission. Several bass were caught. The largest was 32" (as seen on photo page) One of the other had a 10" alewife hanging out of its mouth when it attacked the 5" black Mambo Minnow. Several lures were lost (some on fish) and John only fell in once. -A June 13 The weather has been extremely hot. John and myself embarked on a midday crappy tide mission. Water temps on the bay averaged around 60 degrees. Fishing was slow at first however things turned when we found some larger fish that fell for a 4/0 puglisi style herring fly. John's boat handling was superb and he put me in perfect casting position. A very enjoyable afternoon. - A June 20 After a several days of rain the weather has finally changed. The rivers are running a little high but water clarity was good. Fished another midday high dropping tide. Conditions were a little adverse but we managed a half dozen fish between 20 and 28 inches. All of them came on the puglisi style herring. It is fast becomming my go to pattern. I am working on a mackerel pattern as we have learned that the macks have shown up in the harbor. As much as I like to flyfish I am honestly looking forward to livelining. Headed to the Kbec tonight - more later. -A
